Although the Chinese Exclusion Act will benefit American workers in the sense of pay and job availability, there are many downsides to this extreme change. For one, I think it makes the USA give off a very racist vibe by banning any more Chinese immigrants from becoming US citizens and coming to the US in the first place. Also, industries may suffer financially by having to raise pay again.
With the Chinese Exclusion Act in effect, Americans can now get jobs where Chinese immigrants would normally be employed. They can also get a larger wage, whereas if the business had nearly all Chinese employees, the wages would be considerably lower than normal. However, as I stated above, if the industry loses Chinese workers who either cannot become citizens or leave due to feeling offended by the Act (which I certainly would), the work force, and therefore productivity, will decrease. If the industry feels the need to raise pay to fit the demands of us American workers, the profits of the business we work for will decrease greatly, and even possibly go out of business; in the end, this would just leave many of us jobless.
I believe that banning all Chinese immigrants hoping to find work in America is an extremely racist and unnecessary measure. The Chinese could be blamed for “stealing white jobs” but, in the end, does the race of the laborer matter when work is being done? Although I will admit to thinking that there is an excess of Chinese immigrants in the United States, I would never think that we need to ban them from coming. I am grateful that we are at least not pushing all of the Chinese that have become citizens of America back to their homeland, but in the end, my beliefs are that this act will certainly not benefit the United States of America.
