Do you have a favourite character and why?
I like all my characters, except a few who were written to be nasty, and even those I appreciate! Personally, I love Griffen Gwidian, the protagonist in The Termite Queen, although sadly he has not proved to be very popular. I suppose my most favorite of all is Za’dut, one of Ki’shto’ba’s Twelve Companions. Za’dut is an outcast Worker who lives by its wits – the quintessential trickster character who is so important in epic tales. Za’dut is clever, intelligent, verbally skilled, and indomitable. It stands in for Odysseus in the Troy legends, stealing the holy image that protects Thel’or’ei and plotting how to make the thel’or’ei’zei| break down their own wall. And Za’dut’s adventures never cease coming throughout the later volumes.
I ought to mention another series (at the moment I’m editing the first volume) called The Man Who Found Birds among the Stars. It’s a fictionalized biography of the starship Captain who makes the first contact with extraterrestrials in the 28th century. They happen to be Big Birds (one of these avian aliens appears as a character in The Termite Queen, which is laid in the 30th century). Capt. Robbin Nikalishin is also near the top of my list of favorite characters. These books promise to be very long, however, and so I’m a bit reluctant to start publishing them.
