Can you describe a typical day?

A typical day in the week starts around 6.30am. Work starts at 7.30am where I operate a printing press until 3.30pm. Depending on what day of the week, I leave work and visit my family. When I get home is when the magic happens. If it’s not my turn to cook then I get to write, and sometimes if it is my turn I still get to write. My weekends are filled with family stuff and writing. If you want to be successful you have to have dedication.

What inspired you to write the Col Sec series?

The Col Sec series stems from my love of action and sci fi films and the love of a good book. On my frequent trips to libraries and book shops I could never find the type of book I wanted to read. James Rollins Sigma Force series and Matthew Reilly’s Scarecrow came close; both authors are favourites of mine by the way. So I decided to try and write a book that had plenty of adrenalin fuelled action, gun battles and chases. It had to be filled with characters who would stir your emotions and I wanted it set in the future.

That was Ronin, but it was just the start. I’m now on the seventh book in the series.

What do you like/dislike about Kurt Stryder?

I like the fact that he does the right thing for no other reason than it is the right thing. He’s deeply motivated to keep the galaxy safe and he’ll do whatever he needs to ensure that. He has this fantastic ability that could be beneficial to the galaxy but also a detriment in equal parts and he struggles to come to terms with that.

If there was anything I disliked about him it would be that at times he can be a bit preachy. He has this need to do the right thing at all times and he expects others to do the same. Not everyone has the same dedication or drive though and that’s when his preachy side takes hold.
