Your poems are mostly quite intense, have you always been drawn to these darker themes?
Yes! I grew up fascinated with mostly gothic forms of writing, along with horror movies and books. I just love taking a concept that to many people may be dark and even a little scary, and putting a rhythm to the words in it that in the end, will make something that - to me - is beautiful!
Who or what has been an inspiration to you?
In the beginning the inspiration for my poetry and many of my short stories was Edgar Allan Poe. The way he told his stories, capturing the attention of the reader with his eloquent verses and unique style, just amazes me. Now a days there are so many people and things that inspire my writing it is just too much to list. Everything from events in my life to my family and friends, but Poe will always be a main drawing point of inspiration for me!
Do you have a favourite poem that you have written or one that means a lot to you?
I really love all of my poems. Each one holds it’s own special place in my heart. Right now I think the one poem that I wrote that resonates the most with me is my poem ‘Fears’. It is a poem of how a person’s self doubt can be the worst fear to endure and one of the hardest to overcome. Me publishing my first poetry book almost didn’t happen because of my fears...but I faced them head on and refused to allow them to hold me back. This poem is the acknowledgment of those fears and, in putting them out there, my way of telling them they won't win!
