I was born in North Wales with a quite rare

genetic condition which affects all my joints and

limits my height.

As a child I read a lot and am still a big fan of

Roald Dahl. I wasn’t exceptional at school and my

English teacher refused to let me study O Level

Literature as she said the Shakespeare would be

too difficult for me.

Nevertheless I went onto college and studied

Literature at A level. I thought Literature as a

degree may be too limiting as a career and I

studied Law at Essex University.

Whilst working, I took an Open University degree

in Literature and in 2007 completed my

Masters in the 18th Century Novel, specialising

in the origins of the gothic novel.
