I’m a South African, born and bred, and lived in Cape Town for most of my adult life. I moved to Zimbabwe with my husband Angus in 1995, and have been here ever since. This is a beautiful country, although there have been some really difficult years. The people here are mostly friendly, and always ready for a laugh, no matter how hard life has been over the last years. We’ve always lived in rural, farming areas, so there’s always some sort of wild creature passing through. I particularly love the birdlife.

As well as two parrots, I have two little weaver birds, who brought inside when they either fell, or got tossed out of their nests. With my seven pet chickens, they’re known as the feathered horde. They really do rule us all, including the dog.

We’re in the process of relocating now, mainly because I’ve had malaria so many times, I can’t really afford to get it again. As of now my official home base will be back in my beloved Cape Town, but I’ll still spend a lot of time here, because this is where Angus works. I’ll always love Zimbabwe far too much to stay away for long.
