Julie Jackson founded Scrap Cycle in her garage in mid 2015 with the mission of creating functional art , showcasing the beauty of trees without contributing to deforestation . With a BA in Environmental Health and Science and an internship with a reclaimed wood furniture maker , Jackson ’ s pursuit of sustainability and resource conservation runs deep in her business . Scrap Cycle uses reclaimed wood , mostly Indiana barn wood , to make custom furniture pieces . Milling the old wood yields beautiful grains , colors , and character , making for lovely tables , shelves , and home décor .
