Indian Politics & Policy • Vol. 3, No. 1 • Spring 2020 Editor’s Note We devote this issue to an analysis of the 2019 Indian national elections, which ushered in a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government with an overwhelming majority. Professor Sanjay Kumar of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies in New Delhi is the guest editor of this special issue. The articles that he commissioned examine a number of different facets of the election and its outcomes. All the analyses are based on a careful sifting of substantial bodies of electoral data obtained from post-poll surveys. It is our hope that the readers will find these analyses of the elections to be compelling and illuminating.
