This particular herbal booklet is for the Moscow region only. Numerous publications of this kind are popular throughout the Soviet Union for general guidance and practical use to regional research institutes, universities and State publishing houses. Information is given on the geography, agriculture, botany, State purchasing agents-in general, herbal know-how from the soil to the market or home including Folk Medicine and poisonous plants. Bibliography covers a total of thirty-two works, from 1925 – 54, books and monographs of medical plants of the Moscow region, or closely-related literature. The local publication is a concentrated source of neighbourhood herbal knowledge. Despite our bountiful Materia Medica and botanical gardens, this type of publication does not exist on the North American continent.

As in all economic and social activities in the U. S. S. R., publishing matter is centralized. This is a bulletin on a few books currently being published. A weekly review of eighteen to twenty different sections of Russian books( occasionally Ukrainian, English, French, German, Spanish, etc.) Object of the subscription is to keep readers up to date in their own field-medicine, biology, Herbalogy, botany, pharmacology, etc. Each book review lists title and character with annotations, so that before ordering a book one is well informed as to its content.
