It is an indirect herbal agent for diabetes. Especially useful in nervousness when mentally disturbed, bilious sick headache, acute indigestion and nausea due to inactivity of the liver.
Tincture of Golden seal( Hydrastis canadensis), 7 – 10 drops Tincture of Fringe tree( Chionanthus virginica), 3 – 7 drops Tincture of Red root( Ceanothus americanus), 10 – 20 drops
Dose: 15 – 30 drops in water before meals and at bedtime. Red root is also used with results in dysentery, asthma, chronic bronchitis, whooping cough, consumption and venereal diseases, also as a gargle for swollen tonsils and canker sores. A strong tea will often prevent the condition from reappearing if the area is swabbed and a solution as a gargle used every 2 hr. Dose: 1 teaspoonful of granulated root to 1 pint of boiling water, steep 20 – 30 min. Drink 1 cupful of tea before each meal and before going to bed. Of the tincture of Ceanothus alone, 10 – 20 drops in water before meals and at bedtime. Externally: The astringent action of Red root as a strong tea for haemorrhoids will decrease the tissue if used often. Homoeopathic Clinical: Tincture of fresh leaves— Diarrhoea, heart( disordered), Intermittent fever, Jaundice, Leucorrhoea, Leucocythemia, Menses( suppressed), Side( pain in), Spleen( affection of).
