PENNYROYAL( AMERICAN) Hedeoma pulegiodes, L.( U. S. Agricultural Department, Appalachia, 1971)
Dose: 1 teaspoonful of the herb to 1 cupful of boiling water. Of the tincture, ½-1 fl. dram. Externally: Equal parts of the oil and Linseed oil make a valuable application for burns. Pennyroyal is also used as a hot fomentation in rheumatic affections, applied externally. Homoeopathic Clinical: Tincture of the whole fresh plant— Amenorrhoea, Dysmenorrhoea, Leucorrhoea.
PINK ROOT Spigelia marilandica, L.( N. O.: Loganiaceae)
Common Names: Indian Pink, Carolina Pink, Maryland Pink, Worm Grass. Features: Pink root is indigenous to America. A perennial that inhabits the southern states and is seldom found north of the Potomas. The Cherokee Indians used to collect the herb, for the market, in the northern part of Georgia, but since their removal the supply comes from the far south-west.
The yellow root is very fibrous and sends up several erect, smooth, purplish colour stems, from 6 – 20 in. high. The leaves are opposite, lanceolate and smooth. The flowers are few in number, growing on one side of the stem only. The outside of the flower growth is above the leaf line of the plant.
