GOLDEN ROD Solidago canadensis and Solidago juncea, L.( N. O.: Compositae)
Common Names: Sweet Scented Golden Rod, Blue Mountain Tea. Features: Nearly 100 members of the species of Solidago are centred in North America, especially the eastern United States. These are fibrous, creeping-rooted, perennial herbs; they have erect stems which are sometimes rather woody at the base. The leaves are alternate, simple, entire, or toothed; they have a fragrant odour and a warm, aromatic, agreeable taste. The golden yellow flowers are rather small, arranged in terminal, panicled racemes.
Golden Rod blooms in the summer and autumn, forming in the eastern United States a conspicuous part of the autumnal scene. Different species may be found in a great variety of habitats, from brackish coastal swamps to meadows, woods, fields, prairies, cliffs and alpine fields. The species are difficult to identify and many hybridize in nature, as is shown in the illustrations. Medical Parts: The leaves and tops. Solvent: Water.
