FOREWORD High Commissioner of India, Malawi I t is a great privilege and honor to unveil this Special Edition of Magazine on India-Malawi Relations under the theme “An Enhanced Economic, Developmental and Strategic Partnership”. The theme of the magazine echoes very well with India and Malawi’s current state of relations which have been strengthened in recent years and more so in the year 2018. The High Commission of India in Malawi is delighted to share, that the incidences of High-Level visits in the year 2018 have provided further momentum to the already strong relations between the two countries. 2018 began on a good note with Malawi being conferred the status of a Partner Country at the 13th Edition of the CII-EXIM Bank Conclave - India-Africa Project 2018 held from 25-27 March 2018 in New Delhi, India. A 40 member delegation from Malawi was led by Vice President of the Republic of Malawi Rt. Honorable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima. Besides meeting high dignitaries in India, he called on Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Hon. Vice President of India and invited him to visit Malawi. The Vice President of India accepted the invitation and paid a visit to Malawi on 4-5 November 2018. During the visit of Hon. Vice President, several important announcements were made. The Vice President inaugurated the “India for Humanity” initiative and presented symbolic Jaipur Foot to the Malawian benefi ciaries. Vice President of India was also Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker at the India- Malawi Business Meet. He unveiled the plaque of the Business Incubation Centre to be set up at Mponela Technical College, Dowa; and the India Africa Institute 4 • INDIA-MALAWI • 2019
