STRATEGY 1 : ADVOCATE FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING WITHIN A 10-MINUTE WALK OF THE PARK
Support the needs of local tenants with a diverse array of affordable housing rentals , including public , private and non-profit developments . Advocate for no net-loss of affordable housing . Support efforts in providing workforce housing . Support existing BVHP co-ops and advocate for additional co-ops as a viable housing option for local residents .
INITIATIVES
• Use Park-affiliated websites and bulletin boards to provide transparent information to inform residents about public and affordable housing opportunities , rental assistance , | rental protection resources , and housing related policies .
• Provide information to residents about current and future housing developments within BVHP
• Partner with the developers of the 700 Innes property to ensure that residents of the neighborhood have opportunities to obtain below market housing on site
• Partner with the Mayor ’ s Office of Housing and Community Development ( MOHCD ) to offer housing resource fairs at the Parks
STRATEGY 2 : ADVOCATE FOR PATHWAYS TO HOME OWNERSHIP FOR CURRENT BVHP RESIDENTS
Provide pathways to affordable financing options for existing homeowners and prospective buyers in BVHP . Advocate for rent-to-own options for existing public housing residents .
Initiatives INITIATIVES :
• Use the Park to connect residents with resources regarding current housing trends , financing options , tax services , credit education and home ownership opportunities within BVHP
• Partner with mission-aligned agencies and organizations to provide a financial literacy program to help residents prepare for home ownership
• Partner with mission-aligned organizations to promote and develop community land trusts 1 to secure vacant and blighted properties and create housing opportunities for neighborhood residents
• Seek partnerships to create a first-time home buyers club
• Partner with the Mayor ’ s Office of Housing and Community Development to target BVHP residents , broaden eligibility and expand availability of down payment assistance grants for first-time home buyers , with a focus on Black residents and other underserved community members
