HOUSING SECURITY
In one of the most expensive housing markets in the country , the BVHP neighborhood remains one of the more affordable residential areas compared to other areas in the city . As development in this area increases , with approximately 14,000 units expected to come online in the near future , so too does concern about housing security for BVHP residents .
There is a large concentration of public and affordable housing in the neighborhood supported by a complicated web of local , state and federal resources and governance . Accessibility to affordable housing opportunities is therefore often impeded by confusing rules governing availability , eligibility and pricing along with insufficient services to assist local residents with housing support issues .
Residents of BVHP need affordable and stable housing options , including access to home ownership opportunities . Although this is a park project and not a housing project , supporting affordable and workforce housing options aligns with the EDP goal to uplift residents of neighborhoods surrounding the park and help them thrive .
