STRATEGY 2 : USE THE PHYSICAL SPACES AND PARK PROGRAMMING TO BUILD COMMUNITY COHESION AND SOCIAL CAPITAL
Use the Park and programming to build community cohesion with on-site and webbased resources . Facilitate residents gathering and sharing information and communicating about events and programming at the Park and surrounding neighborhood . Create programs that promote positive , inclusive social values as well as support strengthening relationships between individuals , families and cultural groups . ( See Arts , Culture and Identity for additional social programming initiatives ).
Initiatives INITIATIVES :
• Provide free wi-fi throughout the Park
• Building on the success of the Tech Hub ( See description on page 62 ), expand services to offer personal , civic , educational and professional development and engagement opportunities
• Create a community and online bulletin board and calendar within the Park
• Support farmers markets and food-based events within the Park
STRATEGY 3 : INCREASE PROGRAMMING THAT STRENGTHENS PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH
Provide health and wellness programming hosted by local organizations and public agencies . Provide culturally relevant programming for audiences of all ages and backgrounds but , particularly for area residents . Ensure that park docents and ambassadors are hired from within the BVHP community .
Initiatives INITIATIVES :
• Provide wellness-related programming including meditation , mindfulness workshops , walking groups , stress reduction , and dealing with trauma
• Collaborate with City agencies and non-profit organizations to support mental health services for at-risk community members in the neighborhood
• Through the Recreation and Park Department ’ s park equity initiative , called Requity , and in partnership with City agencies , non-profit organizations and local businesses , provide responsive , active recreational programs , fitness activities and waterfront activities
• Continuation and expansion of the India Basin Tech Hub , where community members are able to access the Internet , use loaned devices and receive technology support or training ( See description on page 62 )
