City parks encourage active lifestyles and reduce health costs , make cities more resilient , help clean the air and improve public health .

STRATEGY 1 : EXTEND ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF URBAN NATURE TO SURROUNDING NEIGHBORHOODS
Expanding beyond the requisite environmental remediation at 900 Innes , spread the environmental benefits of urban nature from the Park into the neighborhoods .
Initiatives INITIATIVES :
• Advocate for and support efforts to plant more trees along public streets and rights of way
• Provide material resources and staff support to existing local groups that organize neighborhood cleanups . Examples include supporting neighborhood cleanups , donating mulch and soil and helping to provide composting services , while supporting existing neighborhood greening initiatives 1 on public and private property
• Support the creation of new community gardens and strengthen relationships with existing community gardens in BVHP , such as Florence Fang Asian Community Garden and Northridge Co-Op Community Garden , by identifying dedicated materials and supplies for the sites
• Expand current San Francisco Recreation and Park Department ( RPD ) environmental education programs that encourage stewardship of the Park including Greenagers , Youth Stewardship , SF Children and Nature and the EcoCenter at Heron ’ s Head Park .
1 Greening initiatives are any efforts that increase or sustain urban vegetation , such as the installation and maintenance of trees and plants .
