STRATEGY 1 : CREATE EDUCATIONAL AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL YOUTH
Expand upon existing Recreation and Park Department youth programs with additional on-site opportunities focusing on Black youth and other underserved residents . Forge partnerships with local schools and youth organizations to enhance educational and leadership offerings . ( See Workforce Development section for additional job-related tactics and proposed hiring initiatives ).
Initiatives INITIATIVES :
• Ensure paid internship opportunities with RPD that focus on local youth who reside in BVHP , including RPD programs such as Greenagers and Workreation
• Establish a youth docent program , in which local BVHP youth are trained to lead tours that narrate local cultural histories and orient visitors to the array of activities at the Park
• Expand RPD programs and partner with other programs to empower youth to participate in meetings of City agencies , housing associations , community organizations and other important forums
• Offer technology , multimedia and maker skills workshops at facilities in the park
• Partner with neighborhood high schools to support enrollment in workforce training programs
• Develop a youth-targeted communication strategy to share Park-related programming and employment opportunities
• Partner with organizations that provide financial literacy programs for youth to learn personal financial management , budgeting and investing
