INTRODUCTION
In 2014, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department took a major step toward revitalizing the Bayview-Hunters Point( BVHP) waterfront by acquiring 900 Innes Avenue, a property rich with scenic views, natural resources, and cultural significance.
Since then, the Department, in partnership with the Trust for Public Land( TPL), A. Philip Randolph Institute( APRI), San Francisco Foundation( SFF) and the BVHP community, have endeavored to build a park that is both spectacular and crucial to the health of San Francisco’ s southeast communities, which have been historically underserved. This culminated in the opening of the first half of India Basin Waterfront Park at 900 Innes, transforming this post-industrial brownfield into a 21st-century legacy park.
With the opening of the first half of the park, we anticipate construction to begin on the second half of the park at neighboring India Basin Shoreline Park in late 2025. In the meantime, significant progress has been made on the community initiatives outlined in the Equitable Development Plan( EDP), the project’ s blueprint for creating a park designed by and for the community. This includes new programs now underway at the completed park at 900 Innes.
