Metro trains: Train surfing coupler riding in Melbourne

METRO Trains says 138 people diced with death last year by riding on the outside of trains.
A group of thrillseeking teenagers calling themselves the Sky High Idiots drew public ire last year after posting a series of videos online of people“ coupler riding”— hanging off moving trains— in Melbourne.
Figures obtained from Metro Trains reveal 780 people have been spotted coupler riding since late 2009 when it took over the franchise.
There have been another 51 reports of people“ train surfing” on roofs.
Last year there were 130 instances of coupler riding— two fewer than the record of 132 incidents in 2011— and eight episodes of train surfing.
Metro spokeswoman Sammie Black said train surfing and coupler riding were extremely dangerous practices.
“ The railway is only dangerous for those that choose to take these types of risks, and

In 2014, Jordan Porter, a 26-year-old graffiti artist known as Sinch, was killed while train surfing at Balaclava. Other videos of the attack posted on social media show wounded and bloodied people crying for help on the footpath outside the ice cream parlour.
