Beyond The Del
family adventures
Jump aboard Flagship’s Patriot Jetboat
for a wild ride as this turbo-charged boat
tours the harbor and does 360-degree
spins. Hornblower offers whale watching
cruises, especially good from December
through March when the gray whales are
traveling to Baja. On the USS Midway,
climb into the restored aircrafts on the
flight deck, tour the command center and
test your skills on the flight simulators.
LEGOLAND has 60 different rides and
an aquarium while SeaWorld offers
rollercoasters, marine mammal shows and
interaction. Ride the tram to see rhinos,
giraffes, zebras and more at the Safari
Park or wander the world-famous San
Diego Zoo, home to koalas, leopards,
lions, Tasmanian Devils, penguins and
more. Hike Torrey Pines State Natural
Reserve by the sea or get a good dose of
culture in Balboa Park where you’ll find 17
museums, some even free.
USS Midway

tee it up
Between a wealth of emerald fairways and
perfect weather, San Diego is a golfer’s
paradise. Coronado Golf Course is
one of the nation’s all-time, great public
courses that delivers sweeping views of
the Coronado Bridge, San Diego Bay, the
city skyline and The Del. The famously
gorgeous Torrey Pines Golf Course
34
offers 36 holes of spectacular golf with
dramatic coastal views. From its cliffside
perch you’ll see paragliders soaring
overhead and frolicking dolphins pods
or spouting whales in the sea below. At
Maderas Golf Course, you can swap your
cart for a GolfBoard vehicle and cruise
the fairways, while enjoying views of the
lakes, streams, woodlands, waterfalls and
wildflowers.
explore little italy
This charming neighborhood is a
great destination for a stroll and foodie
adventure. For authentic Italian, grab a
slice at Filippi’s Pizza Grotto, open since
1950, or try the homemade pastries at
Nonna’s. Civico 1845 offers traditional
holiday
happenings
and vegan fare, while Monello showcases
the street fare of Milan. For some serious
design eye candy and big breakfast fun
head to Morning Glory, an Instagram
wonderland or wander the nearby Little
Italy Food Hall where Not Not Tacos
features atypical fillings like pastrami,
meatloaf and Korean short rib in the Little
Italy Food Hall. Meet our local Top Chef
alums: Chef Richard Blais serves up
great fried chicken at his Crack Shack
while Chef Brian Malarkey has mastered
the wood- fired oven for pizza, roasted
meats and fresh vegetables at Herb &
Wood. Enjoy a cheese board and wine
flights in the garden of Carruth Cellars or
a cold IPA at Ballast Point Brewing Co.
For truly unusual flavors head to Salt &
Straw for an ice cream cone.
