WORLD-CLASS FAMILY ATTRACTIONS,
ARTS AND CULTURE, BREWERIES AND
BOAT RIDES—SAN DIEGO HAS IT ALL.
USS Midway
Family Fun
The best way to explore the bay is on the Flagship Patriot Jet Boat, a wild ride on an open-
air speed boat that does tricks and 360-degree turns. Or climb aboard the USS Midway, a
floating aircraft carrier museum, for a tour of the engine room, bridge, captain’s quarters,
galley and brig, then check out the 29 restored aircrafts on the flight deck. At the world-
famous San Diego Zoo, explore the $68-million exhibit African Rocks, home to penguins,
jaguars, boisterous baboons and leaping lemurs. The San Diego Zoo Safari Park feels like
you’ve gone to Africa without the jetlag, as its tram ride reveals rhinos, lions, giraffes, cape
buffalo, and zebras. LEGOLAND has 60 rides, live shows, a waterpark and a new submarine
ride, while SeaWorld offers up awe-inspiring encounters with dolphins, whales, seals and
mantas, along with heart-thumping rollercoaster rides.
Arts & Culture
Enjoy epic city and sea views from Cabrillo National Monument, the spot where the first
Europeans set foot in California. In Old Town, walk back in time to the 1800s, eat authentic
Mexican fare at a cantina or go on a ghost tour. The Maritime Museum is home to the Star of
India, the world’s oldest active sailing ship, a Soviet submarine, and a replica of the galleon
that discovered San Diego in 1542. It’s worth spending a day at beautiful Balboa Park,
exploring the Japanese Friendship Garden, artist studios, myriad museums and the park’s
incredible Spanish Revival-style architecture.
