Breweries
San Diego is a suds capital with more than 150 breweries. Head to Modern Times, known
for its quirky design (think 10,000+ Post-It Notes art and upside down lampshade-covered
ceilings) and delish brews in both Point Loma and North Park. Pair Andrea’s Truffles with tasty
craft beers at Mike Hess Brewing Company in North Park or wash back some pretzel bites or
blue cheese duck nachos with a cold Sculpin at Ballast Point in Little Italy. Just down the road
from The Del, you can knock back an Islander IPA at Coronado Brewing Co.
Family Fun
Head to the world-famous San Diego Zoo to see their new Africa Rocks exhibit, an $8 million
extravaganza with penguins, leopards and lemurs. Ride the tram or take a private caravan for
up-close views of rhinos, giraffes, cape buffaloes, cheetahs and more at the San Diego Zoo
Safari Park. Board the USS MIDWAY, a floating aircraft carrier museum, where you can climb
into the cockpit of a helicopter, test your skills with a flight simulator, tour the engine room,
galley and brig or explore the 29 restored aircrafts on the deck. At Belmont Park, you can
ride the Giant Dipper roller coaster, play laser tag or hit the arcade.
Balboa Park
This urban oasis, a 1200-acre park adjacent to downtown, is home to 17 museums, the Old
Globe Theater, a Japanese Tea Pavilion, botanical gardens, an artist colony, casual cafes,
