SPORT FEATURE

On the track, Stacey puts on a thrilling show. Off the track, she tells InBound that she’ s actually quite down-to-earth. She swaps the noise of engines for quiet moments with her family and a life that helps her stay balanced.

“ Stacey is a shy, quiet person who loves spending time at home with family,” she says. This calm side helps balance her fast-paced life.
THE MOMENT MOTORSPORT BECAME HER CALLING
Her path into motorsport was not just a side trip – it felt like a calling that showed itself on a global stage.“ The exact moment was when I got the opportunity to meet big celebrities, showcase my talent around the world, and partner with global brands such as Monster Energy,” she recalls.
That exposure didn’ t just validate her skill, it amplified her purpose, placing a South African spinner front and centre in a sport hungry for authenticity and guts.
Ask any spinner about adrenaline, and you’ ll get talk of heart-pounding intensity. Stacey’ s answer flips the script. In one word?“ Relaxing.” It’ s a telling insight. When you’ re in your element, chaos quiets. Control takes over. For Stacey, the spin is a sanctuary.
Navigating a space long dominated by men takes more than talent; it takes mental strength. Her anchor is simple and powerful:“ My family’ s love and support.” That foundation carries her through the pressure, travel, and expectations that come with being a trailblazer.
THE SOUNDTRACK TO SPEED
Music fuels the moment, too. If her life had a soundtrack when she hits the track, it would be“ 50 Cent – God Gave Me Style”.
A fitting anthem for a woman carving her own lane with confidence. Before every big performance, there’ s a ritual that keeps her centred:“ I always pray and ask God to keep me safe.” Faith, for Stacey, is as essential as fuel.
SWITCHING GEARS EFFORTLESSLY
Dream cars? No fluff here. Just three words:“ Big, fast and sexy.” It’ s the same unapologetic energy she brings to her personal style. While motorsport gear is functional, fashion is where she flexes another side. The look that makes her feel unstoppable?“ Definitely a fancy dress with heels because it shows that I can do it all.” It’ s a statement that power doesn’ t have to pick one identity.
When the engines cool and the crowds fade, Stacey switches gears with intention.“ I love going shopping, cooking, going on adventures with my family, calling my sister in the USA to speak to my one-year-old niece, and spending time with my mom.” Home is her reset button, a reminder of why she started and who she’ s doing it for.
Her impact reaches far beyond the smoke. Young girls watch her spin and see possibilities. The message she wishes she’ d heard earlier is the one she now lives by:“ To never doubt myself and always follow my dreams.” It’ s her advice earned through experience, scars and wins.
There’ s also a sharp mind behind the wheel. If motorsport hadn’ t claimed her, Stacey says she’ d be in the courtroom.“ I would be a lawyer as I have an LLB law degree.”
Given the chance to spin anywhere in the world, her answer is deeply personal:“ New Jersey( so I could see my sister after so many years).” Even the most global dreams ultimately come back to family.
2026: TEAM STACEY TAKES THE WHEEL
Learning from the greats remains on her vision board. Working with Lewis Hamilton’ s younger brother, Nicolas Hamilton, in 2019 marked a milestone, and the dream continues.
So, what’ s next? Stacey keeps it tantalisingly brief:“ Big moves are coming this year, so keep your eyes peeled for Team Stacey.”
If her journey so far is anything to go by, 2026 won’ t just be loud – it’ ll be legendary. Stacey-Lee May isn’ t just spinning cars. She’ s spinning the narrative, one fearless move at a time. IB
