VEHICLE REVIEW
But the clever part is that the H6 GT PHEV doesn’ t demand that you drive like you’ re late for everything. It can also operate as a plug-in hybrid, with GWM claiming up to 180km of electric driving range and a combined range of around 1 000km. That means your daily commute can be considerably quieter and more economical, while longer road trips don’ t require the range anxiety associated with a pure EV.
Inside, things are equally impressive.
The cabin feels modern, spacious and properly loaded. There’ s a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, intelligent voice control, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof and a hands-free powered boot. Say“ Hello,” and you can control functions such as the climate system and sunroof without reaching for buttons.
It also comes with the kind of safety technology you’ d expect from a flagship SUV, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, traffic-jam assistance, automatic emergency braking, pre-collision warning and a 360-degree camera system. The model also has a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
And then there’ s the price.
The Haval H6 GT PHEV Ultra Luxury 4WD is currently listed at R799 900 in Mzansi. That puts a lot of car, technology, and performance into the sub- R800k conversation.
After a week with it, the biggest compliment I can give the H6 GT PHEV is simple: I kept finding reasons to drive it. School run? Take the H6. Quick trip to the shops? Take the H6. Weekend escape? Obviously, take the H6. Need to arrive somewhere looking like you have your life together? Definitely take the H6.
If you like your family SUV with a little bit of“ hold my coffee” attitude, this one deserves a test drive. IB
