CELEB Q & A

VALENTINE’ S DAY, CELEB STYLE

BY VENECIA VALENTINE
VALENTINE’ S DAY DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN GRAND GESTURES. FOR SOME OF SOUTH AFRICA’ S MOST RECOGNISABLE NAMES, LOVE SHOWS UP IN PRESENCE, ROUTINE, AND SHARED TIME. WE ASKED WHAT THE DAY MEANS TO THEM, AND THEIR ANSWERS POINT TO SOMETHING QUIETER, DEEPER, AND FAR MORE LASTING.
SINGER ROBIN PIETERS AND HUSBAND REAGAN:
“ For us, Valentine’ s Day is less about grand gestures and more about intentional time together. It’ s a reminder to slow down, reconnect, and choose each other amid busy schedules and full lives. We love keeping the day meaningful yet simple – whether that’ s sharing a quiet meal, reflecting on how far we’ ve come as a couple, or doing something creative together that helps us be fully present. Ultimately, it’ s about celebrating love in a way that feels authentic to who we are.”
MEDIA PERSONALITY CARISSA CUPIDO AND HUSBAND MUMA
KHUMALO:
“ Valentine’ s Day is a really special day for us. We’ ve had 10 Valentine’ s Days together, and this year we look forward to our first as a married couple! Any day that spotlights love is worth celebrating, but we’ ve always done things on our own terms. We’ ve created our own tradition of doing something physical( it’ s not what you’ re thinking), then something romantic.
“ We would usually go for a hike and then have dinner somewhere in the city at a place that holds significance for us both. One of my favourite memories is climbing Table Mountain and then having a well-deserved mussel pot at Rick’ s Café Americain. A cheeky drink or two at The Drinkery would follow to end the night. This year, because it falls on the weekend, the plan is to head up to Franschhoek for a weekend away and explore the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve. Wherever we are is always a good time because we genuinely love hanging out together, so we’ re counting down the days to fully lean into making more memories.”
5FM RADIO HOST KYLE CASSIM AND WIFE NICOLE:
“ Valentine’ s Day isn’ t about big gestures or perfection. It’ s a pause, a moment to reflect on commitment, growth, and choosing each other through every season.
“ Marriage evolves, especially when you become parents, and love takes on a deeper meaning beyond romance. Some years are loud celebrations; others are quieter and more intentional.
“ When we do celebrate, it’ s usually something simple, like time together, a good meal, switching off from the noise, and focusing on gratitude for the family we’ re building. For me, Valentine’ s Day is less about the day itself and more about the reminder to show up with consistency, respect, and effort all year round.”
