AQUAMATION

COMMITTING TO AN ECO-FRIENDLY FAREWELL FOR EASTERN CAPE FAMILIES

AVBOB has officially launched its third Aquamation facility, and its first in the Eastern Cape, at the AVBOB Funeral Branch in Gqeberha. As part of its continuing commitment to provide families with meaningful choices and AVBOB’ s eco-friendly alternatives, this facility combines compassion, dignity and environmental stewardship.
Aquamation, also known as alkaline hydrolysis, is a water-based process that offers a gentle and sustainable alternative to flamebased cremation. Using a combination of water flow, temperature and alkalinity, the process returns the body to its natural elements without the use of fire or harmful emissions.
The result is a soft, natural transition that leaves behind only sterile bone fragments, which are processed into a fine powder similar to ashes and respectfully returned to the family. The process uses significantly less energy than cremation, emits no greenhouse gases, and has an exceptionally low carbon footprint.
For those who value environmental consciousness, Aquamation represents a dignified way to honour loved ones while caring for the planet.
