THE GARDEN CLUB OF FOREST HILLS
As another year comes to a close, the Garden Club of Forest Hills has wrapped up the season with a fall clean-up and is eagerly awaiting the blooms of spring.
Members invite the community to visit the beautifully renovated Hillside and Pollinator gardens at Forest Hills Main Park, which flourished throughout the year thanks to the club’ s care and dedication.
In 2025, the garden club enjoyed a variety of engaging, educational and hands-on programs. The year concludes with the annual Potluck Lunch and festive Holiday Horticulture Happening.
An exciting lineup is planned for 2026, led by a new slate of officers bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
The garden club meets the first Thursday of each month( except January and February) at Christ Lutheran Church, located at 400 Barclay Ave. in Forest Hills. Guests are always welcome!

INTRODUCING‘ UNITY IN COMMUNITY’
The Jewish Community Center( JCC) of Greater Pittsburgh and the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh announced a new partnership,“ Unity in Community,” aimed at fostering dialogue, understanding and action against hate.
Launched in October 2025, the initiative combines the JCC’ s educational expertise with the YMCA’ s community reach to unite people across Pittsburgh through shared learning and engagement.
The program includes the Curious Conversations Speaker Series running through spring 2026, with events including United Against Hate Week, Resisting Racism, and Combating Jew Hatred.
CEO Amy Kienle of the YMCA and CEO Jason Kunzman of the JCC emphasized that the collaboration is about creating spaces for connection, empathy and resilience across all communities.

PASSAVANT MEMORIAL HOMES GOLF CLASSIC RAISES $ 143K
Passavant Memorial Homes Foundation( PMHF) raised more than $ 143,000 at its 32nd annual Golf Classic, held at Olde Stonewall Golf Club in Ellwood City.
The funds support children and adults with intellectual disabilities, autism and behavioral health needs served by Passavant Memorial Homes, operating nearly 100 homes for more than 200 individuals across Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
Highlights of the event included a bourbon tasting station, cookie table, photo booth, silent auction, and hole-inone contests. Celina Pompeani Mathison of KDKA-TV emceed the day, and the PMHF Classic Cup went to the foursome led by Dr. Frank Makoczy of Beaver Falls.
Proceeds will enhance programs for the more than 600 individuals supported by PMHF across the region.
RED CROSS CALLS FOR VOLUNTEERS
The American Red Cross of Greater Pennsylvania issued an urgent call for volunteers as disaster response demands continue to grow.
With volunteers making up 90 % of its workforce, the organization is seeking help to respond to both local emergencies, like home fires, and large-scale disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires.
Key opportunities include serving on Disaster Action Teams to support families after local emergencies, working in local shelters, or traveling nationwide to assist after major disasters.

MOLINARI’ S NEW BOOK CAPTURES PITTSBURGH PENGUINS’ LEGACY
Just in time for hockey season, Reedy Press released“ The Pittsburgh Penguins: An Illustrated Timeline” by veteran sportswriter Dave Molinari.
This hardcover, photo-rich volume traces the team’ s journey from its rocky beginnings in 1967 through decades of highs and lows, culminating in five Stanley Cup victories and the rise of superstars like Mario Lemieux, Jaromír Jágr, Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby.
Molinari, who covered the Penguins for more than 40 years and has been honored as a journalist by the Hockey Hall of Fame, captures both the legends and the lesserknown figures who shaped the franchise.
