Libraries Rock! Summer reading, learning and fun
Missed the start of summer reading? No worries, jump in now! Pick up signup materials for yourself and your family members at the desk, fill out your reading lists, get raffle tickets and win prizes! And come to classes, programs, parties, game nights and all the other fun we’ re doing this summer.
Stories and activities happen on Mondays at 11 a. m. for children ages 3 to 5, Mondays at 1 p. m. for K to 3rd graders, and Saturdays at 1 p. m. for 1st to 5th graders.
Other events include: WIZARD, family games, adult games, adult book lunches and, to wrap up Summer Reading, a carnival!
This year Miss Bonnie will be joined by teachers Cece, Roberta, Ann, Vince, Patricia and Silvija for lots of summer reading, learning and fun.
For all the summer reading activities, please sign up at the front desk. This is so we can plan to have enough for everyone who’ s coming.
Do You Want To Be a WIZARD Winner?
Join anytime! The 4-week summer tournament will run on June 23 & 30, July 7 & 14, at 7 p. m. Even if you end up with the worst score of the night, you will still take home a stupendous(?) prize! Following the standard tournament, experienced players are invited back on July 21, when we will play a ridiculous version of the game called Wacky Wizard. The rules will change in each hand! Join us for air-conditioned fun.
Wednesday Family Game Night
BEETLE PARTY – July 11, 7 p. m., a traditional game in England( second in popularity to royal weddings). It inspired the American boxed game Cootie. Participants roll a die and color parts of a beetle. When you complete your bug, you are rewarded.
VICTORIAN GAMES NIGHT – July 25, 7 p. m. First, we will all learn how to play Pope Joan. Then we may sample the delights of Authors, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, and Dominoes, as well as Thaumatropes, Tops and Kaleidoscopes. Does anyone care to sample Trifle?
GAMES FOR VARIOUS AGES
Back by popular request, we will gather again to play Ticket to Ride on July 1, at 1 p. m. It is for ages 10 to adult. Build the most and longest railroads across the country or around the world.
STRATEGY GAMES- Choose from a variety of strategy games on July 15, at 1 p. m.: Asalto, Hneufatafl, Torres, Zertz and others.
Summer Carnival!
To celebrate the end of summer reading, we’ re having a carnival! It happens on Sunday, August 12, 1 to 3 p. m. in the library’ s front yard. Bouncey, Plinko, Cornhole, music and more. It’ s a potluck, so bring a treat if you can. If it rains, we’ ll go to the Senior Center.
More Adult Book Lunches Two lunches are scheduled for this summer. Fans of Ann Patchett are invited to participate in a pot-luck lunch on July 8, at 1 p. m. We will chat about our favorite books, our favorite scenes and our favorite characters.
Swissvale volunteer Sue Pearlstein reviews books for the Post-Gazette. Come to the( provided) salad lunch on Sunday, July 22, at 1 p. m., and listen to Sue explain the requirements of book reviewing. She will also talk about the books that she has
