WHAT’S NEWS IN WOODLAND HILLS
FOREST HILLS DOG PARK
NOW OPEN!
The Friends of Forest Hills Dog Park are
pleased to announce that the Forest Hills Dog
Park is officially open!
The contractors are putting the finishing
touches on the site, but for all functional
purposes the park is ready for you and your
pups. The park is located within the main park
off of Ardmore Blvd. There is a small and large
dog park situated within the woods between
the main park and playground and the parking
lot for the Forest Hills Pool. Parking is
available at the foot of the hill off of Ardmore
or at the top of the hill by the pool.
Please note that the fencing box within the
entrance gate to the small dog park sustained
some damage from a downed tree. Repairs
to the fence are in process but the park is
functional despite this minor setback.
Plans for a grand opening ceremony and
dedication are in the works in conjunction
with the Boro Community Day activities
over the Fourth of July holiday. Stay tuned for
additional details.
A special thank-you is in order to all of the
people who made the park a reality. Thank
you to the Forest Hills Borough Council,
Forest Hills administrative staff, Senator Jay
Costa, the Forest Hills Rotary and all of the
individuals and businesses who supported the
project with a donation.
Special thanks to the dedicated volunteers
from the Friends of Forest Hills Dog Park.
This park was just an idea that was presented
to council way back in December 2014.
Without your dedication and commitment,
the park would have never become a reality.
Stay tuned for additional updates. Looking
forward to seeing you at the park!
SCOUTING FOR FOOD
Scouting for Food is a nationwide food
drive that assists local communities that are
food insecure. During the month of April,
local Boy Scouts distributed door hangers
in their neighborhoods to announce the
food drive. Scouts then return to pick up and
deliver donations to local food banks and
pantries.
A Scout promises “to help other people at
all times.” Scouting for Food is the leading
service program for Boy Scouts of America
and is a part of the national BSA program
Good Turn for America. Support your
local Boy Scouts by participating in the
annual Scouting for Food drive! For more

THRIVAL INNOVATION
+ MUSIC FESTIVAL
RETURNS FOR LIVE
OUTDOOR MUSIC
EXPERIENCE
Celebrating its fifth year, Pittsburgh’s Thrival
Innovation + Music Festival has announced
that its outdoor live music experience will take
place Sept. 29 and 30 at the Carrie Furnaces,
a former blast furnace facility turned national
historic site.
Retired in the late 1970s and operated
by the nonprofit Rivers of Steel, the Carrie
Furnaces are part and parcel to Pittsburgh’s
industrial past; a narrative that Thrival is keen
to preserve.

“We’ve turned the mill back on. It
just functions differently,” says Dan Law,
Director of Thrival. “Instead of hearing shift
whistles, you hear a bass line. It’s one way
of telling Pittsburgh’s comeback story, but
this demonstrates what is possible with
imagination and creativity.”
Founded in 2013, Thrival is produced by
Ascender, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit that
has grown the festival from community block
party to flagship regional event celebrating
Pittsburgh’s resurgence as a fast-evolving tech
and creative hub.
The entire festival runs Sept. 27 through
30, with two days of “immersive, innovation-
focused programming” preceding the
music. More details on Thrival Innovation
—including host sites, themes, and a new
national partnership—will be released soon.
While Grammy Award-winning duo The
Chainsmokers drew huge crowds to last year’s
music portion, Law gives equal weight to both
innovation and music, crediting both areas
of the festival that broke attendance and sales
records in 2016.
“Thrival crosses a lot of genres and
disciplines. It’s part innovation conference,
part concert. In all, the festival is a holistic
experience,” he says.
To help manage this growth in 2017,
Thrival has partnered with Live Nation
Entertainment for venue operations, talent
buying and marketing efforts.
Live Nation Entertainment (NYSE: LYV)
is the world’s leading live entertainment
company comprised of global market leaders:
Ticketmaster, Live Nation Concerts, Live
Nation Advertising & Sponsorship and Artist
Nation Management.
“With Live Nation’s support on Thrival
Music, this partnership allows us to invest a
lot of focus in scaling Thrival Innovation and
leveraging both a local and national audience.
We’re very excited for the opportunities this
presents,” says Bobby Zappala, founder of
Thrival and CEO of Ascender.
