Caden excels in many artistic mediums including drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. She was awarded a Silver Key in both the sculpture and ceramics categories at the 2016 Pittsburgh Regional Scholastic Art Awards. Those pieces were on display at CCAC North from February 6–20. In addition, she received Honorable Mention in sculpture for two pieces and for one piece in ceramics. She has also created several award-winning pieces for the Fairchild Challenge at Phipps Conservatory. She received second place for a stunning drawing of a Ruby Throated hummingbird pollinating a Red Cardinal flower, and a picture she drew of tulips blooming in the spring snow is currently on display in the Phipps Welcome Center. She also designed the cover of a book of Nearby Nature Haikus that won first place. Currently, she is painting an environmental design on a rain barrel which will be used to water the garden at the Woodland Hills Academy. “First Blooms in the Spring Snow” “Ruby Throated Humming Bird and Cardinal Flower” STEAM CAMP AT WILKINS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Mrs. Lisa Foster and Ms. Carol Groat facilitated a Bricks4Kidz STEAM Camp for 3rd graders at Wilkins Primary School. Bricks4Kidz is a hands-on class created and based on the popularity of LEGO bricks. It exposes students to all four STEAM concepts: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, as well as introducing engineering and architecture principles. The students explored math and science concepts, increased general knowledge through discussions related to each model, and developed social/emotional skills such as patience, teamwork, and communication. In the process, they completed their projects, improved fine motor skills, and were involved in visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learning. The students sincerely loved the camp-style experience that was specifically designed to expose children to the fundamentals of STEAM. 54 Woodland Hills Caden Ferita receives Silver Keys from Scholastic Art Awards Painting Environmental Rain Barrel
