Woodland Hills Students Continue Their Excellence in the Fairchild Challenge

The 2016-2017 School Year marks the sixth year that Woodland Hills sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students have been competing in the Fairchild Challenge at Phipps Conservatory. The competition included schools from all around the Pittsburgh area, with over 1,500 students participating. They will participate in five different environmental challenges over the course of the school year. To date, two of the challenges have been completed. The first challenge asked students to complete a nature journal that included 20 pictures and descriptions of plants that grow in Western Pennsylvania. impressed by the artistically stunning and well-researched pieces our students created! The second project challenged students to create an app for their phones that encouraged people to learn about nature, environmental issues, or healthy living. The Woodland Hills Academy won first place in Challenge Two for the app they created called Go Eco. It was designed to teach people about environmental issues and encourage them to engage in environmental actions by offering incentives for uploading videos of positive environmental actions. Congratulations to all of our students for an exemplary performance in the Fairchild Challenge and best of luck with the final three projects!
