Programs at the Area Public Libraries Spring 2017

Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale
The Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale is the last library that Andrew Carnegie built. Local architect Andrew Isles delivered the library into the hands of the Board of Trustees on March 20, 1917. The grant from Andrew Carnegie only included funds for the building, so local community leaders spent the next year raising money to equip and furnish the building. The library opened to the public on Feb. 4, 1918.
In honor of these two events, we’ re celebrating! From March of 2017 through February of 2018, the Friends of the Swissvale Library invite you to celebrate 100 years of the Swissvale Library.
You can help with our year-long celebration in the following ways:
• Cash contributions to help defray the Friends’ expenses for the year.
• Help to plan and publicize the year’ s events.
• Lending us any library or Swissvale historic photos to display.
• Coming to the celebration events!
