PITTSBURGH BALLET THEATRE FAMILY FAIRY TALE PACKAGE

PITTSBURGH PET EXPO OFFERS THREE DAYS OF FUN FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY

GIRL SCOUTS 2026 BOARD LEADERSHIP
Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania( GSHPA) announced its 2026 board leadership and committee appointments, welcoming new and returning community leaders who will help guide the organization’ s mission across its 30-county service area.
Renee Mattei Montgomery was named board chair, Adrienne Vicari was appointed board vice chair, and Daniel Sheaffer Jr. will continue serving as treasurer. Several members at large and committee leaders were also appointed to support governance, strategic planning, fundraising and financial oversight.
GSHPA leaders noted that the board’ s expertise and community connections will help expand opportunities for girls to build confidence, develop leadership skills and make a positive impact in their communities.
THE GARDEN CLUB OF FOREST HILLS
The Garden Club of Forest Hills celebrated America’ s 250th birthday in patriotic fashion on July 2 with a special event that brought history to life.
Members enjoyed a visit from“ Betsy Ross,” complete with her colonial flag, with tables featuring arrangements of flowers commonly grown during the 1770s.
The afternoon’ s highlight was a lively skit,“ Colonial Cooking with the‘ Original’ Martha,” set in a re-created colonial kitchen.
Portraying Martha Washington and five influential women of the Revolutionary War era, club members dressed in period costumes, shared short biographies of their historical figures, and demonstrated authentic colonial recipes while explaining the ingredients commonly used during that time.
The featured dishes were later served as part of the luncheon, creating a unique blend of history, food and entertainment. With a mix of historical storytelling, improvisation, and plenty of laughter, the event offered members an enjoyable and memorable afternoon.
The garden club has also been busy showcasing the results of its recent work in the newly renovated Hillside and Pollinator Gardens located at the entrance to Forest Hills Memorial Park. New signage debuted during Community Day on July 4, when visitors were invited to tour the refreshed space and learn more about gardening.
The club also raffled themed gift baskets to support its ongoing beautification projects, flower shows, educational programming, and future initiatives. Young visitors enjoyed a popular Kids Corner, where they planted marigolds to take home.
June’ s hands-on workshop encouraged members to paint and decorate birdhouses before mounting them on decorative spindles for display in their own gardens.
Upcoming activities include the club’ s first Member Appreciation Day in September at the Westinghouse Lodge and an October workshop where members will decorate pumpkins for the fall season.
The Garden of the Month Committee recognized several outstanding local landscapes this summer. May’ s recipients were Ed and Linda Hyde of Woodside Road, followed by Cara Vampenhout of Bevington Road in June and Karen Gregoire of Barclay Avenue in July.
The Garden Club of Forest Hills meets on the first Thursday of each month at Christ Lutheran Church, 400 Barclay Avenue. Coffee and tea begin at 9:30 a. m., and guests are always welcome.
