Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale UPCOMING EVENTS September is “Love Your Library” Month! Donations made to the Swissvale Library during the month of September will be matched on a pro-rated basis, thanks to a generous grant from the Buncher Foundation. There are many ways that you can contribute, including shopping at the Friends’ Book and Bake Sale (Sept. 26 to 28; see below for details), contributing for a book to honor or memorialize someone (forms at the desk), buying a chocolate bar at the front desk and simply making a contribution. Thank you! FRIENDS’ FANTASTIC FALL BOOK AND BAKE SALE Thursday, 9/26, to Saturday, 9/28 One way to show your library love is to patronize the Swissvale Library’s book and bake sale. Get ready for some toe-tapping good times with friends and neighbors! Here’s our fall line-up: Saturday, Oct. 26, 1:30 to 3 p.m.: Melissa Alliston Rai (Latin music) Saturday, Nov. 23, 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.: Teresa Hawthorne (jazz/dance) ART AT THE LIBRARY, TOO Throughout September, we also have two wonderful art exhibits. “Handmade Paper Quilts” by Katy DeMent, the Paper Lady, are robust explorations of texture and color crafted through handmade cast papers embellished with a variety of media: collage, sewing, printing and painting with encaustics (melted beeswax). The Braddock Library has generously loaned artwork by the teen students of the community. Come see what the Paper Lady and our talented local teens have created! If you are an artist and would like to have your art displayed at the Swissvale Library, see Kate. WOODLAND HILLS ❘ FALL 2019 19
