WOODLAND HILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS
Wolverine means inclusion. I transferred to the high school as a junior and was immediately embraced by my peers. I never felt like an outsider. My teachers went out of their way to make me feel at home. There is such a sense of pride and community in this District. Everyone bleeds black and turquoise. My two years at the Woodland Hills taught me so many life lessons that I will carry with me forever. Once a Wolverine, always a Wolverine.-Stephen Puhl, Class of 2016 Being a Wolverine means being a leader. Someone who displays excellent moral and ethical character. Someone who is a trendsetter, no matter what the circumstance. Someone who stands out in a crowd, but still has the ability to connect with those from different walks of life. Someone who embraces diversity and is a champion for equality. A Wolverine is a go getter who meets a challenge head on and always rises to the occasion.-Ron Coursey, Athletic Director
Tradition: every year the shoes become bigger to fill, Wolverines do not fall into the pressure, Wolverines fill the shoes!- Chris Edmonds, Class of 1996 *

I have great teachers.-Avon Pressley, 2nd grade, Edgewood Primary
I love being a Wolverine because they are champions and I want to play football for the Wolverines when I get to high school. I want to be a professional football player in the NFL when I get older. My favorite subject in school is Math. – Laimon Bates, 3rd grade, Rankin Promise
To be a Wolverine you need to be determined to succeed and try again if you don’ t succeed and try until you get it.-Marina Rolandi, 5th grade, Woodland Hills Academy
What does it take to be a Wolverine? It takes hard work, dedication, time, and effort!-Da’ Nosh Rawls, 6th grade, Woodland Hills Intermediate
To me being a Wolverine means that I come from a strong community of great teachers that give me the power to succeed and excel in school. I am proud to be a part of this strong school and I am proud to be a Wolverine.-Sierra Smith, Class of 2022
There might not be much literature out there about wolverines, but Woodland Hills Wolverines write their own stories every day that they walk through our doors. The setting is their“ home,” the characters are diverse and unique, and are truly bonded with one another; and the interwoven plotlines have incredible narratives with comedy, tragedy, ups, and downs. As teachers, it is our privilege to help each Wolverine add to the pages of their stories as they represent who we all truly are: strong, colorful, resilient, and memorable. – The Woodland Hills Junior / Senior High School English Language Arts Department
Being a Wolverine means being a part of something greater than yourself.-Licia Lentz, Assistant Superintendent
Being a Wolverine means having a sense of duty and obligation alongside an equally strong attitude of gratefulness and appreciation. It is a duty to do your best because there is an obligation to exceed the expectations that people have for you. There are those who expect less of you so you must always give even more. But there is also a profound sense of gratitude. It is a gratitude that comes from being a part of a very special place and part of a very important effort to bring people together and produce something that is more than the sum of its parts. The essence of being a Wolverine is that, together, we are better and stronger than we are as individuals. For that unique and important cause, being a Wolverine, to me, means duty and gratitude. – Alan Johnson, Superintendent
As anyone who truly knows us can see, being a Wolverine is more than a label. It’ s a frame of mind, it’ s a state of being, and it’ s a way of life. We are strong alone, but we are unstoppable together.
