UPMC Wound Healing Services
at UPMC McKeesport
Expert Care for Nonhealing Wounds
Our team of multispecialty physicians, surgeons, podiatrists, advanced practice providers, and certified wound nurses have years of specialized
experience treating chronic, nonhealing wounds and expertly assist patients living with these conditions.
Our experts, at the UPMC McKeesport location, are proud to offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for certain wounds, a non-invasive
treatment option that can promote healing.
HBOT utilizes oxygen under pressure to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal. Patients breathe 100 percent oxygen inside a clear acrylic
chamber that is pressurized at two to three times greater than atmospheric pressure. This environment stimulates the rebuilding of blood vessels
while fighting infection, helping to heal persistent wounds.
What causes nonhealing wounds?
• Diabetes
• Poor circulation
• Vascular diseases
• Traumatic injuries
• Pressure ulcers
• Late effects of radiation
• Infections
• Surgical wounds
