People living in and around West Mifflin don’ t have far to travel for expert vascular surgery care available at the UPMC Outpatient Center on Clairton Blvd.
“ It’ s really a unique place where we can offer very comprehensive care,” explains Elizabeth Andraska, MD, a UPMC vascular surgeon.
In West Mifflin, Dr. Andraska performs procedures to treat spider and varicose veins. These include:
• Catheter ablations— A thin, flexible tube( catheter) delivers heat or chemicals to damage tissue and close a vein.
• Phlebectomies— Several tiny incisions are made in the skin, and varicose veins are then removed through the cuts.
• Sclerotherapy injections— A solution is injected directly into a vein, causing it to close before being absorbed into the body.
Imaging services are also available at the outpatient center, as well as consultations, which provide Dr. Andraska and Natalie Sridharan, MD, with a chance to talk with patients about their vascular health and develop customized care plans.
If it’ s determined that surgical intervention is needed, the team works to transition care to UPMC Presbyterian or UPMC Mercy for surgery.
