MT. LEBANON JUNIOR
WOMEN’S CLUB
ANNOUNCES ANNUAL
BENEFICIARY
The Mt. Lebanon Junior Women’s
Club is Honored to Announce its 2019-
20 Major Grant Beneficiary, The Young
Women’s Breast Cancer Awareness
Foundation (YWBCAF).
“The Young Women’s Breast Cancer
Awareness Foundation is a 501(c)(3) that
educates, supports and provides small
financial grants to women under 45 in
Pittsburgh with breast cancer. We are
thrilled with this partnership as not only
[is MLJWC] a powerful group of caring
women, but you are the exact target we
want to speak to regarding breast health,”
said Jennifer Kehm, co-founder of the
YWBCAF.
“When we were created,” Kehm
adds, “the mission was to make sure all
women and physicians were aware that
young women can and do get breast
cancer. Young women can many times
be diagnosed at later states making the
challenge much greater. We lose 116
women a day to breast cancer. The
survivors in their 20s and 30s are often
isolated, lonely, saddled with fertility
issues, employment issues and medical
leave challenges, trying to manage young
children and many times are left with a
lifetime of financial challenge.”
Founded in July 2005, YWBCAF is
deeply committed to bringing breast
cancer awareness to women under 45. To
increase awareness, YWBCAF regularly
partners with local groups and organizes
events during the month of October, such
as Pink Ribbon Bagels, Lanterns of Hope
and PINK OUT events held at local high
school athletic functions.
To honor YWBCAF, MLJWC will
hold its major club event, “Viva el Bingo!”
with a portion of the proceeds benefiting
YWBCAF. The event will take place on
Saturday, Mar. 28, 2020 at the Bethel Park
Community Center. The event co-chairs
are Becky Dearing and Jill Loughridge.
