PHANTOM FALL FEST
This big event offers playtime by day and lots of terror by night. Families will enjoy going to Kennywood in the cool days of autumn, with special festive foods, available beginning Sept. 19, including smoked sausage mac and cheese, and maple cinnamon sweet potato fries.
Lord Kenneth Ghostwood will be opening his estate during the day for a trick-or-treating experience for children to collect sweet treats, also beginning on Sept. 19. But when the sun goes down, it’ s a different place, with six haunted houses and four scare zones!

BE A LIFELINE FOR ANIMALS
Animal Lifeline of Pittsburgh, Homestead, provides assistance to at-risk and homeless pets within the community and beyond, including lifesaving transport for some of the animals.
Volunteers travel throughout the eastern U. S. to retrieve animals in danger of being euthanized, and those who have been displaced by natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods. The animals are transported to safe shelters where they may be adopted.
Animal Lifeline has a constant need for food and supplies to care for the rescued animals. On the website, there is a gift registry where you can select items from Walmart, Amazon and Chewy. com to be delivered directly to Animal Lifeline.

HALLOWEEN IN WEST MIFFLIN!
Mark your calendars for West Mifflin Borough’ s special Halloween event on Oct. 31 for kids age birth to 10 years old. Get your costumes ready and enjoy great fall activities, including a pumpkin patch. Each child will receive a gift bag and refreshments will be on hand.

FEEDING THE COMMUNITY
Some families are having a hard time since work can sometimes be unpredictable. The Cloverleaf Area Ecumenical Assistance program serves area families in need of food or other help. It operates out of the Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish with many individuals, churches and synagogues participating.
The food pantry is located at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary school building, and distributes food every two weeks throughout the year. It is staffed entirely by volunteers.

IN HONOR OF VETERANS
With Veterans Day on the horizon, it’ s a great time to honor the tremendous sacrifice of our veterans.
Operation Troop Appreciation helps service members deployed anywhere in the world, either in combat or on humanitarian missions as active duty, reservists or U. S. National Guard.
Its assistance provides needed items for troops and also helps veterans transitioning back into civilian life.
