WEST JEFFERSON HILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS
As we enter the holiday season, we are grateful for the students, families, staff, and community members who make West Jefferson Hills School District a special place. This year, student achievement continues to grow, with all tested areas showing progress, and enrollment rising to 3,607 students— an increase of 55 since August. Our schools remain at the forefront of innovation, with 1:1 Apple iPads district-wide, AP Honor Roll Silver Status at Thomas Jefferson High School, and recognition for JHIS and PHMS among the top 40 % of schools in Pennsylvania as recognized by US News and World Report.
We are also excited about initiatives that strengthen learning, relationships, and community engagement. The district launched a Staff and Student Influencer Program to highlight positive stories, piloted new science curricular resources to align with updated state standards, and continued professional development in Artificial Intelligence( AI) to enhance personalized instruction. Additionally, we are planning facility improvements, including the Pleasant Hills Middle School Construction Project, with an emphasis on shared resources and student-centered design.
Looking ahead, the district has partnered with The Assemble Group, co-founded by TJ graduate Megan Smulski, to secure funding for a regional youth sports landmark— an athletic field complex that will foster community pride, strengthen the local economy, and provide exceptional educational and athletic opportunities. We remain committed to safety, academic excellence, and positive relationships, including hosting a District Safety Symposium on March 25, 2026.
The district in the coming month will send out the first edition of our e-spotted newsletter for the 2025-2026 school year. This issue will expand and give updates on many of the items listed above, as well as highlight some videos and other important happenings Grades K-12.
