STUDENT-RUN TECH HELP DESK AT TJHS
The Bogdan Family Agency / Allstate donated $ 5,000 to Thomas Jefferson High School to launch a student-run technology help desk, a new program that empowers students to provide tech support to their peers, teachers, and parents.
A ribbon cutting and check presentation ceremony was held on Sept. 30 at the school.
Dr. Jennifer Kassimer, director of technology and innovation with WJHSD, hopes the program will give students an authentic, hands-on leadership experience while assisting teachers and classmates.
Students will help troubleshoot schoolissued devices, support new students with log-in and software access, and lead tech training sessions during the school’ s Personalized Learning Time block.
The long-term vision includes a fundraising goal of $ 100,000 over the next six to eight years to sustain and expand the program.
In the past, Allstate has helped fund the 3D printing program at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School.
Kassimer says that this new program will provide students with more personalized opportunities to develop skills and prepare for future success.

FEEDING THE COMMUNITY
This time of year can be especially hard for some of our neighbors, with additional expenses plus outdoor work slowing during the colder months.
The Cloverleaf Area Ecumenical Assistance program serves area families in need of food or other assistance. It operates out of the Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish with many individuals, churches and synagogues participating.
The food pantry is located at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary school building, and distributes food every two weeks throughout the year, providing more than 120,000 lbs. of food annually. It is staffed entirely by volunteers.
If you would be able to contribute to the mission of the pantry, or are willing to volunteer, visit cloverleafpantry. org.
BE A LIFELINE FOR ANIMALS!
Animal Lifeline Pittsburgh in Homestead provides assistance to at-risk and homeless pets within the community and beyond.
One program even offers lifesaving transport for animals in need. Volunteers travel throughout the eastern U. S. to help animals in danger of being euthanized or have been displaced by natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods. They are transported to safe shelters where they may be adopted.
Animal Lifeline has a constant need for food and supplies to care for the rescued animals. If you are able to contribute, volunteer, or adopt / foster an animal, visit the website at animallifelinepgh. org. n
