SUNRISE SOCIAL
The West Jefferson Hills School District hosted a Sunrise Social on June 12 , 2024 . Those is attendance enjoyed a breakfast from 8:30-9 a . m . Next the guest speaker , Johnna Pro , spoke to the audience about securing grant funding and how to develop partnerships with businesses . She represents the commonwealth to aid local municipalities to get funding at the local level . The theme of the program was “ Economic Growth and Business in our Region .” Johnna Pro is extremely knowledgeable and has keen insights in how to raise funding . The one idea that resonates throughout her informative presentation is that if only a few thousand dollars are needed handle at the local level but is a large amount is needed find a matching partner and contact her . VETERANS DAY PROGRAM-FRIDAY , NOVEMBER 8 , 2024
The West Jefferson Hills Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the West Jefferson Hills School District honored all veterans at a ceremony beginning with breakfast at 8 a . m . and a program at 9 a . m . in Thomas Jefferson High School Theatre . The program was held early because the high school band was marching in the Veterans Day Parade in Pittsburgh . The audience was the entire Thomas Jefferson student body , staff , and administrators , community members , and veterans representing every branch of the armed services . The program began with an introduction by Mr . Murphy , the high school principal . Next the president of the senior class , Gavin Hart led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance . Olivia Virgin sang the national anthem accompanied by the Thomas Jefferson High School Marching Band . An invocation was given by Suzanne Mackulin . The entire music department , TJHS band , orchestra , and choir played music entitled , “ America the Spirit Lives On .” Gavin Hart then welcomed everyone . Mr . Murphy gave remarks on Veterans Day . Brook McGrew , a senior at TJ , gave remarks on enlisting in the Air Force . The music department then played , “ Stars and Stripes Forever .” The keynote speaker , Lt . Colonel Chelsea Lamping , representing the Air Force branch of the armed forces . Her speech included a brief history of her service as a pilot along with a PowerPoint . Next she drew parallels between the goals of the air force and the goals set by Thomas Jefferson High School . The goals of TJHS are empathy , respect , and integrity . Some of the students who have had fathers who have served in the military appeared in a video called , “ Veteran Fathers ” and some of those dads were in the audience with their children . Peyton Oeler reviewed those TJ graduates who suffered the ultimate sacrifice by giving a brief summary of their service and remembering them with a Power Point . Lastly , the music for each branch of the military was played asking veterans present to stand when their song was played . Thank you to Mr . Mirabella and Mrs . Julie
