Foundation Offers Mini-Grants to Teachers
During the 2019-2020 school year , the West Jefferson Hills Foundation for Education kicked off their reorganization with the opportunity for teachers to apply for $ 500 mini-grants . Teachers could use the funds to support students through projects that align with school and district goals . Just as the money was dispersed and teachers dove into their projects , the pandemic closed schools . However , the Foundation extended the use of the funds through the 2020-21 school year and is excited to bring the grant program back again this school year to support a new grouping of projects .
Below is a recap of great learning opportunities the teachers engaged in over the 19-20 and 20-21 school years !
Elementary - Grant recipients Mrs . Wahl and Mrs . Hrvatin used the grant funds to provide students with exciting technologies to help grow their learning . Mrs . Wahl acquired a light table that helped Kindergarten students have a sensory experience in the classroom . Mrs . Hrvatin purchased Osmo sets so students could practice forming letters and learning letter sounds .
Intermediate - The intermediate school received the opportunity to acquire a chicken coop through the efforts of Mrs . Zang . After incubating chicken eggs , the students are able to watch the chickens grow and learn how to care for them .
