Anytime Comfort Food to Go
For the past 17 years , Rowdy BBQ has been serving up the best barbeque in the South Hills . Housed in a converted ice cream store , owner Steve Kingsland admits that many people recognize his business , yet haven ’ t stopped by . But that doesn ’ t stop the people in the know from getting the BBQ , Pulled Pork and Cheesesteak sandwiches that Rowdy BBQ is famous for .
“ We hear everyday from someone new how they ’ ve been driving by this place for years and our answer to that is , ‘ Well , it ’ s about time — we ’ ve been waiting a long time for you ! Thanks for finally visiting us ,’” he said . “ Getting new customers is always hard for restaurants in general , but our food speaks for itself , the customers always return and word travels .”
Kingsland ’ s menu is simple and comprised of food he loves . “ Typically , people come in for our BBQ , but they fall in love with our cheesesteaks ,” he said . “ No matter what our customers enjoy , the ingredients are simple : good meat , fresh veggies , fresh bread , fresh cheese , and knowing how to season everything .”
From the St . Louis Style Ribs to Pulled Chicken , Pulled Pork and Pulled Beef Brisket sandwiches , Rowdy BBQ has a barbeque staple for every taste . Fresh-cut fries and macaroni and cheese are favorite sides , but all are made from scratch like the potato salad , coleslaw and beans . Everyone likes burgers and wings , so they of course are on the menu , as well as chicken with bacon and ranch , or Buffalo-style sandwiches .
While Rowdy BBQ has some outside seating by way of picnic tables , Kingsland said that take-out and catering have always been how most people enjoy his food . Because of the low overhead on a smaller building , he also notes that the prices are generally lower than what you ’ d find elsewhere .
“ We do a lot of catering because our food holds up well for catering functions , and people enjoy that it is different , reasonably priced and , most important , delicious . We can accommodate events of 100 to 200 people , but because of the pandemic , we ’ re seeing people being more responsible and have seen an increase in smaller events of 20 to 30 people ,” he said . “ If it ’ s a smaller order , we can have it together in 15 to 45 minutes . If it ’ s a larger event , we do ask for a week ’ s notice , but we know things come up and can work with anyone in a pinch .”
As a good neighbor , Rowdy BBQ is very active with local charities like Drop the Puck and the Howard Hanna Children ’ s Hospital fundraiser . Because it has been a part of the community for over 16 years , Kingsland added that Rowdy BBQ chooses to support organizations that are more local in order to give back to the community it serves .
