Beedle Park Concession Stand

This fall , principal construction for a new concession stand at Beedle Park in Floreffe was completed . This project has been in the works for close to three years , from initial application to completion . The facility features a concession stand to be used during the baseball and soccer games at Beedle Park , indoor restrooms , and a storage space . The entire facility is ADA compliant , and also has electric heaters that serve the entire building for the cooler days in the fall and spring .
The work for this concession stand began with the submission of a grant proposal for $ 100,000 through the Gaming and Economic Development Fund ( GEDF ) to help pay for the project . Swede Construction was then awarded the bid to serve as the General Contractor . The original contract with Swede was for $ 242,000 .
The concession stand portion of the structure is intended for pre-packaged
On December 30th , 2020 , Police Chief Gene Roach will be retiring from his nearly decade-long tenure with the Borough of Jefferson Hills Police Department ( JHPD ). During his career , he has been a member of three different Departments over nearly four decades .
Chief Roach ’ s career in law enforcement began 39 years ago with the North Fayette Township Police Department , where he served for four years . He then went on to serve the Mount Lebanon Police Department for 25 years . He retired as Deputy Chief from Mount Lebanon to accept the Chief position with the Borough in January of 2011 .
Under the leadership of Chief Roach , the Police Department has grown from 17 to 20 officers . He has overseen the hiring of 12 officers over the past 10 years . In addition to expanding the force , the department has “ become a more competent and capable one , both operationally and with commitment ,” according to Chief Roach . “ Our collective goal and vision is and will always be foods and drinks only , so there will be no food preparation at the facility . In September , the Borough Council authorized the purchase of a refrigerator merchandiser for the concession stand . The concession stand is an entirely new structure . The bulk of construction was mostly completed this past summer and fall . Over the winter months , the Public Works Department will work to add counters , tables , shelving , in the concession stand and storage room areas of the structure .
At this time , the Borough is still working through final inspections and approvals both with the Contractor and with the Allegheny County Health Department
to bring this Police Department to a distinguished level of performance .”
When asked about what he will miss about the job and working , Chief Roach said the following :
“ You don ’ t do something for 39 years of your life and just stop and not expect to miss it . I already know I will miss being a police officer and my law enforcement career , but knowing what I did counted for something is a memory I get to take with me . Also , I know I will miss the officers in this police department – I have seen them grow considerably in my time here and I am proud of them and the department they have become .”
Following his retirement , Chief Roach plans on traveling and spending more time with his family and friends . He notes that he doesn ’ t think he will ever get too busy to where he cannot keep tabs on the department and what new achievements the future has in store for them .
“ It has been a good journey , but it is my time to move on . I wish nothing but the best for the community ; and for the members of the JHPD to Stay Safe !”
The nearly completed concession stand is located just beyond the baseball field , and right before the soccer fields at Beedle Park . Pictured are the bathroom entrances and the front concession stand window .
( ACHD ). Once inspections are complete and the building is turned over to the Borough , the Public Works Department will be winterizing the structure .
Though most of the construction is complete at this time , the facility will open to the public in the spring . This will allow use during the upcoming soccer and baseball seasons , as both leagues have fields at Beedle Park . There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the spring , which will be announced as the season approaches .
