WEST JEFFERSON HILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS — JEFFERSON HILLS INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL
After five months of sitting empty and two months of hybrid learning , the halls and classrooms at Jefferson Hills Intermediate School are finally beginning to look a little more alive now that our students in grades 3-5 have returned to school 5 days a week .
Even though everyone donned face coverings , happiness was evident in their faces , as students climbed off of the busses and made their way down the halls , which were quite sparse until last month . With the West Jefferson Hills Schools District starting the 2020-2021 school year off under a hybrid model , JHIS operated with less than half of its students present at any given time , with the rest logging on remotely from home .
On Tuesday , November 10 , 2020 , the majority of JHIS students elected to return to five days of in-person instruction . Despite the fact that alternative seating has been set aside for the more traditional style of student desks arranged in rows and recorded on seating charts , the classrooms continue to be filled with joy and excitement as well as a love for learning . The cafeteria and gymnasium are once again loud with chatter , as plexiglass dividers permit student interaction and down time during lunch periods . Although face coverings and social distancing are required during recess , old friends have been reunited and new friends have been made .
While everyone is still adjusting to the “ new normal ” and hoping to restore our former practices after the pandemic , our faculty , staff , and students are thrilled to be back together at JHIS and looking forward to the remainder of the school year !
