Police News Two Jefferson Hills Police officers were awarded letters of commendation at the November 11 Borough Council meeting by Chief Gene Roach and Mayor Jan Cmar. Officer Ryan Pokorny rescued an unconscious victim from a burning apartment by entering the fire and smoke consumed apartment and dragging him outside where he could be treated by medics and transported to an area hospital. Officer John Haas is the recipient of the 2019 “DUI – TOP GUN” Award from the Pennsylvania DUI Association recognizing him for his efforts in removing impaired drivers from Pennsylvania roadways. Council Hires New Policer Officer At its October 15 meeting, Borough of Jefferson Hills Council hired Kyle J. Stawowczyk as the newest member of the Borough of Jefferson Hills Police force. “Welcome and best wishes for a long and safe career,” Officer Stawowczyk. District Judge Mike Thatcher administers the Police Officer’s Oath to Officer Stawowczyk. 50 WEST JEFFERSON HILLS The New Jefferson Hills Fire and Rescue Holds Organizational Meeting On November 4, Borough of Jefferson Hills Council President Chris King, Vice- President Jay Weber, and Council delegate to the fire service, Tracey Khalil were guests at the first meeting of the newly organized Jefferson Hills Fire and Rescue at the Floreffe Fire Hall. The new organization is comprised of volunteers from Floreffe VFD and 885 VFD. John Thatcher, President of the Board of Directors, presided at the meeting. “We are very appreciative of what you’ve done,” King told the group. “The creation of Jefferson Hills Fire and Rescue was designed to provide safety for our community in the most efficient way. Council is committed to this new organization, and you will have our support moving forward,” he said. Andrew Tomer, Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator, also spoke to the group. “Throughout the course of this consolidation, we stood by our mission to improve the fire and rescue service capacity and delivery to our residents, businesses, and visitors. We will continue to train and provide the highest level of service to those that depend on us. Now is the time to show our community the benefit of the consolidation, which is one, united fire department with some of the highest trained and most dedicated volunteers in the area. Today is a giant step forward for our community.” After a brief business meeting, Thatcher invited the attendees to stay for cake and beverages. “Let’s end our first meeting together by saying hello to someone you don’t know and shaking their hand,” he said.
