Dear Jefferson Hills Resident,
Since my installation as manager of your Borough in July, I have worked to learn
about the community of Jefferson Hills as well as the priorities of its residents. One
of the issues brought to my attention is some interest for the Borough to build a
community center for the public’s use.
Prior to my hiring, a feasibility study was conducted and found that construction of
a community center would cost between $10.6 and $13.3 million, with an additional
$300,000 to $600,000 in ongoing annual operating costs. Further analysis indicated that
a more realistic cost for construction could be upwards of $15.9 million, with similar
operation and maintenance expenses as those quoted in the feasibility study. Even
conservatively, these estimates would translate into approximately $1 - $1.5 million in
annual new debt for the Borough.
The purpose of this letter is to gauge your household’s interest in a potential
community center for the Borough. Your household’s opinion matters a great deal in
considering a potential project of this size and scope. The Borough strongly encourages
each member of your household, aged 18 or older, to complete this survey online
(www.jeffersonhillsboro.org). You may also complete a traditional paper survey at the
Borough’s administration or library offices located at 925 Old Clairton Road. We request
that you complete this survey on or before January 31, 2020.
Input, like that of your household, is valued and keeps Borough Council informed
of the community’s priorities. Survey data will also help shape a forthcoming
comprehensive recreation plan.
I look forward to hearing from you. If you or your household have questions, or need
any assistance, please feel free to contact our offices.
Sincerely,
John P. Stinner
