“We’re so grateful.
Now we have the
family we wanted.”
LORRIE FOWLER, MOM OF (SOON-TO-BE) TWO
A detour on the
way to parenthood
Lorrie Fowler and her husband Jimmy were ready to start a
family. But, after a year of trying, they still weren’t pregnant.
So, Lorrie decided to meet with David Logan, MD, medical
director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jeff erson Hospital.
She worried she might have endometriosis. With this
condition, the tissue lining the uterus grows outside
the uterus, usually on the ovaries or fallopian tubes.
Endometriosis causes pain, menstrual irregularities, and
sometimes fertility issues.
When Dr. Logan recommended laparoscopy as the best
way to confi rm whether Lorrie had endometriosis, she
agreed. Using a robotic-assisted surgical system, he
inserted a fi ber-optic instrument through Lorrie’s abdomen,
and removed the tissue growing outside her uterus.
A few months later, Lorrie was pregnant. Their daughter
is now a toddler, and Lorrie and Jimmy are expecting their
second child in early 2020.
“Dr. Logan and everyone at Jeff erson was so compassionate
about our situation,” Lorrie said. “It made us more confi dent
about continuing our journey to try and have a family.”
